Telecommunications provider O₂ Telefónica has made a robust start to the 2025 financial year. In a first quarter characterized by intense competition, the company gained 164,000 new mobile contract customers.

O₂ Telefónica introduces new contract tariffs for its core brand O₂. The O₂ Mobile tariff portfolio will be simplified and underpins O₂'s claim to be the value-for-money leader in the German market. On 6 November 2024, O₂'s new mobile contract tariffs will be launched across all sales channels.

For a year now, O₂ Telefónica has been offering the real 5G, also known as 5G-Standalone (5G SA) or “5G Plus”, across its entire 5G network. The rollout of the 5G network began in October 2020. Just three years later, the telecommunications provider opened access to 5G Standalone for its customers.

O₂ Telefónica has reached a milestone in the further development of 5G. By bundling four frequency bands in 5G standalone mode, the company achieved peak download speeds of more than 1.7 gigabits per second. For comparison: that is almost twice as fast as the most powerful commercial fiber-optic connections currently available.

Strong networks, low prices, high variety: Ten years after the merger of O₂ Telefónica and E-Plus on October 1, 2014, the range of services for mobile phone users in Germany has improved significantly.

O₂ Telefónica welcomes Lyca Mobile Germany as it’s newest partner on its mobile network. This further strengthens the company's position in the wholesale segment. Effective immediately, Lyca Mobile, one of the world's leading international mobile virtual network operators (MVNO), will offer its customers in Germany with mobile services via the high-performance network infrastructure of O₂ Telefónica.

Cloud services are a key tool for the digital transformation of business processes. The business customer brand o2 Business of the telecommunications company o2 Telefónica and Netskope, a leading provider of security service edge (SSE) technologies, will be working together in future. The partners offer companies in Germany a customisable security solution for cloud services.

O₂ Telefónica Deutschland and mobilezone have entered into a strategic partnership to reactivate the brand. With immediate effect, mobilezone will market postpaid tariffs at a very competitive price level under the well-known discount brand.

O₂’s private customers will now be able to book supplementary insurance using “O₂ Care”. The first instalment, “O₂ Care | Mobility”, launches on 7 August.

Telecommunications provider O₂ Telefónica continued to grow in the second quarter and increased its earnings margin. Growth was driven primarily by the strength of the core brand O₂.

O₂ Telefónica and Deutsche Telekom will be working even more closely together in the area of fiber optics in future. The two companies have concluded an agreement on a new purchasing model for the marketing of fiber optic connections in Deutsche Telekom's network. This purchasing model offers O₂ Telefónica the opportunity to map Deutsche Telekom's new fiber optic portfolio for its own customer contact.
